Critical safety tips for ski and snowboard enjoyment.

Not many things compare to the feeling of sliding down a pristine snow covered slope on a beautiful sunny day. In fact there is not other feeling quite like it. Yup, we are addicted to the feeling. Yet we are still safety conscious. So to that end, we think it's important to provide you with the following three excellent tips and tricks for ski and snowboarding so every outing is only fun and safe.

Don't ski close to the trees when the snow is deep. Every year at least one person dies from hypothermia or asphyxiation. Tree wells are one thing many are not familiar with. They are actually quite common in the high countries, like in Colorado for instance, where deep snows are the norm. These tree wells occur over time with the buildup of a great deal of snow at the base of trees. The reason this happens is because thelow branches prevent packing of the snow at the tree base. These can of course get very deep, in fact deep enough to be over the average person's head by alot. Upside down is the typical way this happens as skiers end up falling head first into them. Of course in this area the snow is too loose causing further sinking when trying to get out. There are unique challenges and dangers to prepare for with back country skiing. You don't want to get into a situation where you run out of batteries which is why a lot of people are switching to rechargeable batteries. As the electronics are made smaller, more of them are taking AAA batteries. You can get a battery convert that allows you to up your AAA to AA size. This device, which allows you to charge both sizes, will most often be used in your car but is handy to have in case you get stuck in a remote spot.

For beginning board riders and even skiers, be smart and get some lessons before you go out tearing it up. Learn from a very experienced buddy or a professional instructor. This is definitely one of the sharpest moves you can ever make. Moreover, think about wanting to learn the proper way from the start because if you don't, then you are actually putting yourself in some extent of harm's way because you're possibly performing a move inappropriately.

And doing it in an incorrect method can make you harm yourself. So know what you need to know, and if you know nothing - then simply start at the beginning just like we all had to do. Also, when you're doing things properly, then that will allow you to start having more fun much faster. There are several safety devices and systems available to help keep you safe. While it's probably not necessary to go to the extreme, we believe sound knowledge of the potential hazards as well as how to deal with the local terrain is valuable. Remember, if you'll be traveling to an unfamiliar location, then we very strongly suggest you do research and reading from credible sources about the area. You may also find it helpful to stop at a local ski shop for information.
